Wouldn’t it be nice to actually rest and relax over the holidays this year?

Or really, any time you have a vacation or time off scheduled? I mean truly unplugged, not checking email, not doing busy work, and not trying to put together your upcoming content marketing and promotions.

If every year you find yourself scrambling to put together holiday promotions, doing client work, and working from the couch (telling yourself that’s kind of like a vacation), then I have news for you:

It doesn’t have to be that way. Even as the CEO of your business.

With some foresight and planning, you can set yourself up to take actual time off this holiday season (or for any vacation) to fill your cup and relax.

The 5 tips in this blog focus on the winter holidays specifically, but the steps and concepts work for preparing to take time off for any upcoming vacation you have scheduled.

TIPS TO WORK BETTER

1. Sometimes boundaries in your business have to be learned the hard way — and that's certainly been true for me. My biggest business blunder was featured on Jill Salman's Podcast "Why Are We Shouting?" - Listen Here (9mins).

2. I'm all about inbox health - meaning you should only have emails that are valuable and interesting to you pinging your attention. Take an hour (or 2) this week to go through and unsubscribe to the avalanche of Black Friday/Cyber Monday emails you got. If you really want to wrangle your email inbox, read this blog.

3. I learned a new word last week: Bromide — a trite and unoriginal idea or remark, typically intended to soothe or placate. "feel-good bromides create the illusion of problem solving" I think we can all relate to bromide marketing in the online space (ahem, Instagram). The next time you're thinking about copywriting and marketing for your business, try to catch yourself when you use bromides.

TIPS TO LIVE WELL

1. For my personality test fans out there...have you heard of Gene Keys? My friend Cat P. told me about it and it's a fun and enlightening perspective on your own life's work and challenges. Check it out.

2. I read 4 (!!) fiction books last week while on Thanksgiving break. I am honestly that boring person that likes to read and take naps in my spare time. I'm able to read so much because I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription ($10/mo) which pays for itself many times over. Getting a Kindle Unlimited subscription for yourself or someone else is a great gift for readers. Click here to subscribe.

3. Regaining your creativity is an intentional practice. The day to day of our lives and to-do lists can keep us in logistics and planning mode, instead of dreaming and playing. Here are 3 ways to fill up your creativity tank (written for kids, but you could totally practice these too). Read more.
