it always takes more time...[SIE💡]

stacking rocks

I will take a long, long time to make a decision about big things.

Quitting the federal government? 3 years after I knew I wanted to leave.

Social media manager for Megadeth? 6 months of planning to take the leap.

Pivoting away from Pinterest? I knew mid-2020 I was growing beyond that niche as my work and wanted to help my audience in a different way.

But once I decide I'm done and the decision is made — I want to get to the next part like yesterday.

And I'm always reminded that anything new takes time. It takes a certain level of serendipity, spotting opportunities, a willingness to be vulnerable, and perseverance.

We moved to a new state knowing no one here, and a year and a half later I finally feeling like I'm getting situated and meeting people.

I decided to remove any and all Pinterest offers from my website a few months ago, and I'm now getting interest in women wanting me to speak to their people about creating a business that fits with your life (not the other way around).

It's times like these — the messy middle of leaping into what's next — that I have to go back to what I know at the core of my being...

Since I was 15 years old, I have always, ALWAYS figured it out. Whatever IT is.

TIPS TO WORK BETTER

1. If a writing habit is on your list to improve, read this article on how to start a daily writing habit (even if you're already too busy). My favorite suggestion is to use a writing prompt to beat the blank page. Pick one suggestion is try it! Read more.

2. If you're constantly consuming ideas, strategies, and information - but not implementing - you might need to improve how you learn. Watch this video on "Double Loop Learning" to...learn more...get it? Ha ha ;) Watch now.

3. I love a cute comic strip graphic (especially if it's dark and sarcastic)...but I'm a real sucker for combining comics that tell stories and sell products at the same time. Work smarter not harder, right? Check out this case study on how an Instagram dinosaur comic tells stories, makes shareables, and sells merch in a single post. It might spark some inspo for your next content idea. Read more.

TIPS TO LIVE WELL

1. The lack of sleep I experienced for years as a Special Agent was something of a nightmare (pun intended). The 10 years I spent in that position left lasting, deeply traumatic effects on my mind and body. I knew I had to quit when my doctor said, "your job is killing you" - and while that seemed nebulous and illogical at the time, there is now proof of what she was telling me. "The link between a lack of sleep and cancer is now so strong that recently the World Health Organization decided to classify any form of nighttime shift work as a probable carcinogen. So in other words, jobs that may induce cancer because of a disruption of your sleep rate rhythms." Here's the video outlining what happens when we don't get the sleep we need. Watch now (and go to bed early tonight).

2. The secret to happiness might not be getting everything we want. It might come from practicing intentional thought and behavior. Read this article about how to organize your time more intentionally in order to be happier (from the book Happier Hour). Read more.

3. If you need a giggle and/or idea or two, check out this list of 100 ways to slightly improve your life without really trying. #2 is a must. I have no idea what they mean by #4...#70 is a hard no. Read here and enjoy.
